Ed, I would first assume that it is a coincidence, as type 1 diabetes is not all that uncommon. On the other hand, assaults that cause a significant immune response (such as coxsackie virus or infection) can also precede diabetes. Presumably, anything that puts the immune system into overdrive can trigger autoimmunity in some genetically-predisposed people. Therefore, perhaps Klausen's theory of a mold allergy may have some merit.
As someone else suggested, if the people that bought your house were of Finnish background, then there is another factor to be considered, and the house itself would be less suspect.
I wish I could say something more useful, but I can't think of anything that hasn't be posted by others.
