They have developed two different compunds that stop the progression of Type I. Clinical trials are now underway for newly diagnosed diabetics (I talked to the lead investigator). For those with established Tupe I diabetes, it is too late (although the compounds might be helpful after islet transplants to minimize immunosuppression).
