Diamyd Medical s business is based on a GAD technology platform. The main work is the development of the Diamyd pharmaceutical for diabetes patients. The company has successfully carried out a Phase II study. The aim now is to establish cooperation with a pharmaceutical company for the further commercialization of Diamyd .
Development of the Diamyd Diabetes Pharmaceutical
Diamyd Medical has previously reported positive six-month results from its Phase II study with the GAD-based Diamyd diabetes pharmaceutical. The study showed that Diamyd is safe to administer and that one of the doses gave statistically significantly higher C-peptide levels compared to the placebo. C-peptide levels were measured to investigate the effect of Diamyd on insulin production in diabetes patients. Further analyses during this period have confirmed the unexpected finding that Diamyd increases C-peptide levels instead of only preventing the ongoing deterioration that is characteristic for these patients.
Presentation of the 12-month results from the study is planned in conjunction with the IDS7 international diabetes meeting at Cambridge, England, March 28-31, 2004. Presentations are also planned for the ADA meeting in June at Orlando, Florida, and the EASD meeting in Munich in September.
