We had our daughter on the 511 which as you know uses a standard AAA battery. In my opinion the 512 is not a significant improvement to the 511. In 2 years we had two pump failures and had a replacement the next day both times. The current pump a 512 has been working well for the past 6 months. I am not sure that medtronic has worked out the quality issues but I think their customer service has been responsive.

While I would not spend extra money on a 512 vs. the 511 I believe I would buy the 511 again as the remote that comes with the pump makes using it a breeze.

as for the 508 vs. 511 the biggest issue is reserivor size. The 511 hold 180 units so if you need more than ~55 units a day you should look at the 508.

For what it's worth. email me private if you have other questions...
