hi
i used to buy into that lo fat stuff. not all fats r created equal. monosaturated such as olive oil and canola oil won't hurt you. actually it is the polyunsaturated fats that are the most dangerous and go rancid in your body.
the ideal diet is enough carbs for you to have mental clarity and enough fats (monosaturated emphasized not to feel hungry and protein about the size of your palm. (from Dr. Sears)
there r a ton of studies about lo fat vs lo carb. here is one
http://www.usatoday.com/news/health/2003-05-21-atkins-usat_x.htm
"• At the end of the year, the Atkins dieters had an 18% increase in HDL (good) cholesterol, compared with 3% increase for the other group; Atkins dieters had a 28% drop in triglycerides (blood fats), while others had a 1% increase. Neither group had changes in LDL (bad) cholesterol."

the Veterans Administration study, same article

"• Triglycerides dropped 20% for low-carb dieters compared with 4% for those in the low-fat group."
the best way to reduce heart and circulatory problems is number one
take a daily baby aspirin to thin the blood and folic acid to control homocysteine levels. homocysteine is the best marker for heart disease. statins and controlling blood pressure is next, And avoid starch. Eat vegetables and legumes instead

"Experimental pill offers dramatic benefits
It is nicknamed the 'poly pill' and British researchers say it is one of the most important medical advances in 50 years.
They have combined six common medicines in a single tablet which they believe can prevent 80 per cent of heart attacks and strokes, and they say anyone over 55 should be taking it.
"The expected benefits are really very large with an estimated 88 per cent reduction in risk of heart attacks," chief researcher Prof Nick Wald from the University of London said.
Scientists examined the results of 750 trials, involving more than 500,000 patients.
They combined six commonly used drugs: a cholesterol lowering pill, three blood pressure medications taken at half the standard dose, folic acid and a small dose of aspirin"
