Though of the three food groups, carbohydrates, proteins, and fats, a high protein diet is not recommended for diabetics since it may promote diabetic kidney disease; a high fat diet is not good for diabetics since diabetics metabolize fats abnormally and high fat diets promote major artery disease; and so nothing is left but carbohydrates as the main calorie source!
