First, Dr. Zhong is at the State University of New York at Binghamton, not Bingingham. Secondly, we don't need the FDA to protect us from this technology, what he is proposing is so far out and so difficult that it is very unlikely to ever happen. For example, he wants to have a small pump. Where is the insulin, in what form, at what concentration, at what stability? These are not terribly difficult concepts to understand but they are very difficult to get to work in actual practice. Many companies have been working for many years on closed loop feedback control systems, us among them. We applaud Dr. Zhong's science but what he has done is so far from a practical implementation that it should not be thought of (IMHO) as even something to hope for.
