The manufacturer seems very casual about the proper dose, perhaps because the substance is so non-toxic. The entry in the German pharmacopia says: "50 mg tablets: for prophylaxis: one to two 50 mg tablets weekly; for therapeutic purposes: one 50 mg tablet one to three times a day, in rare cases also more, taken with fluids; for 150 mg tablets, take one tablet daily with fluid and without chewing it, in rare cases also more." It should be remembered that in 1998, when these doses were deterimed, benfotiamine was only being used, according to the product literature, "for therapy and prophylaxis of clinical vitamin B1 deficiency, in so far as this cannot be removed by diet."
