Greg: I believe Dr. Alan F. Bachrach in his response in a thread "Re: New York Times 12/18/2002" on this board says he prescribes Neurontin for neuropathy when possible.
I take Neurontin (aka gabapentin) for diabetic neuropathy and find relief from the often intense pain associated with this condition. The side effect for me is drowsiness when I take the full dosage, but I find about most of the pain gone. If you do a search on any engine for "gabapentin & diabetis", you will find a wealth of information. On a side note, this medication is an anticonvulsant used in higher doses to treat other problems. The treatment of diabetic neuropathy in lower doses was found to be an added benefit.
As far as disability, I don't know. I am disabled, but that is due to Congestive Heart Failure. For me, neuropathy and diabetis are just added baggage. Good luck.
