It has never been about dogma! It has been about power and control. Those that were the bishops of middle age europe had tremendous power over all things. When an observer of science says the earth revoles about the sun then the bishops stand to loose everything if he is right, especially their credibility with the governed. So burn, lock em, what ever it takes to preserve power. THe truth be dammed. THe bishops actually thought that the truth would destroy them, in a way it did.
