I have hear this lament regarding profiting from sick children many times. Yes, it is true that ALL pharma cos. profit from the sick. But so do doctors, nurses, insurance companies, hospitals, etc. Should they all be required to forgo profit? Perhaps Alan will treat all out of the kindness of his heart. Perhaps Drs. Ricordi and Kenyon can just donate their time as well as the other researchers- no need for them to earn a wage on the sick, is there? Now there likely are researchers like Banting that are altruistic enough to donate the research but do you rellay think that they would have been able to commercialize it without the aid of a for profit company like Lilly? Mind you, I am not claiming they are perfect or that the system is perfect just that your laments leave little in the way of a viable alternative.
