I was under the somewhat unclear understanding that ICAs - islet cell antibodies - are present if there are islets still present, or being formed. ICAs being the destroyers of the islets.
Thus, ICAs present is thought to be an indicator of islets still present, in quantity enough to stimulate the islet cell destruction process to continue.
ICAs diminish with length of disease.
This is not clear to me, so, if someone can enlighten, please do so...thanks.
