I noticed this person referred to yet another life expectancy for a diabetic (as compared to a non-diabetic). This one was 10 years less. I've also heard 5 years less than non-diabetic. The one that I remember from a long time ago is, "loss of 30% from time of diagnosis". Meaning if the average life expectancy for a women is 78 and I was diagnosed at age 13 I should expect to live to about 58. Certainly not a happy thought and certainly not something I dwell on but I would like to know why and how physicians come up with these estimates? There are just too many variables.
