Chemical treatment has always been the "last resort" option. Thankfully have not gotten to that point, as I understand the drug used to treat are quite harsh and no picnic as far as side affects. Maybe we'd luck out and it would improve b.g.'s as opposed to the more likely opposite scenario. Actually since the appt. 3 years ago, we have not gone back to the ped neuro. The only reason to go back would be to seek medication, which he left as an option *should* this situaion escalate to a point where the benefit outweighted the risks.

Tried briefly to switch back to Regular insulin instead of Humalog back then for a couple of weeks (the preservative issue/concerns) but there were no changes. The appeal of then brand new Humalog quickly brought us back to it.

Have read anecdotal info about nicotine (in patch form or chewing gum) being successful in minimalizing tics. Don't know if there are any legitimate studies being done on this. Obviously the suggestion of putting a child on a nicotine patch or buying Nicorette gum for them would be highly controversial, especially since tics are a condition that generally are outgrown in early adulthood.

If it was widely known to be successful even if only anecdotal, it would seem worth a try. Unless it lead to cigarette smoking. ugh

This coming from a Mom who would not dream of consuming aspartame or when pregnant or nursing.....let alone let my child consume it (previous to diabetes dx.) I'm sure the aspartame opponents would probably want to blame that for the tics. Maybe they'd be right.

My parents thankfulness and wishes for "healthy children" (which they had) when asked what they wanted during gift season when I was young are so much more profound to me now.
