Alan-- I've done my best and my daughter had two seizures as a child. Still, I don't think her IQ levels were affected, and she doesn't have tics. She is pretty emotional, though. One thing that endos don't really look out for, and *should* along these lines-- low Free T3 thyroid levels. Usually they just test TSH or Free T4, but sometimes the conversion to T3 can be impaired in diabetes. T3 is the more active hormone. In any case, low T3 levels can lead to all sorts of strange behavior manifestations. My daughter is on replacement thyroid hormone, but it is a combo of T4/T3. If her Free T3 levels get into the lower half of normal, watch out!! This is one study that needs to be done that doesn't have anything to do with a cure (IMHO). Because this is a case where something *can* be done for someone with diabetes.
