Unfortunately there is not the equivalent of the "Edmonton Protocol" for porcine islets. The closest is probably Diatranz in New Zealand who, as I understand, are now entering clinical trials outside of NZ. Of course, funding remains a major problem for them. If these trials were to prove successful, then we would have an example of restoring normoglycemia with islets that are available in virtually infinite supply. It would be hard for the naysayers and alarmists to derail it at that point. However, they are hard at work to try and assure that it never gets started.
