Until recently the real reason was that you could have high/low blood sugar at the time of donation. Blood centers do not want to risk anything with regards to donors. Therefore you and I were scratched from the list of available donors. More recently the risk CJD in Europe and elsewere may be impacting their decision making process. Before I was diabetic I gave a gallon of blood over the years. Then once diabetic they stopped calling.
