I heard a news report today either on CNN or MSNBC that said that Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld was in conflict with his top military advisors, because their Plan A was bombing Kabul. Apparently Rumsfeld has a brain, and figured out in short order that there isn't anything worthwhile in Kabul to bomb. The news report said that he was trying to get ideas from the military leaders, and he was frustrated that they were not able to "think out of the box" with this. I am sure that the war against terrorism will result in innocent lives being lost-- both American and other nationalities. But anything that looks like pure retaliation will result in our losing key support that we need. I really feel that the important thing is being SMART about all this. I feel very angry about what happened, as do most people. Acting intelligently, relentlessly, with controlled anger as the motivating force, can disarm the terrorists. They were hoping to provoke a strong, immediate, retaliatory military action from us, which would isolate us from all of the Islamic world. So far we have proven too smart for that.
I would like to discuss diabetes as well. Someone who thinks out of the box will defeat diabetes. It won't be the "same old same old" we have been hearing for years. I don't know what it will be, but it will take someone seeing the forest along with the trees. Someone SMART.
