I remarked to a work associate the other day how most Islamic countries are a monarchy, a dictatorship, or a theocratic dictatorship. You can look across northern Africa to Pakistan and into Indonesia and this seems to be true with little exception. In the middle of all of this is Israel, a modern democracy with western ideas and principles. It's chief friend being the United States. In fact Islam is most of the world's remaining non-democracy forms of government. Others can be found in China and sub Saharan Africa. China is rapidly moving to more western culture and ideas and personally I think it is in a mode of moving away from the past.
Just an observation and food for thought.
