The Edmonton protocol is no longer accepting diabetics with any signs of kidney failure as 2 or 3 of their original receipents are starting to develop kidny problems due the immunosuppresive drugs they have been taking.
So now they will have to decide which is worse - going on with the islet cell transplants and face an eventual kidney transplant or stop completely.
It must be a disappointmet both to them and any diabetic who had hopes of a "cure"!
