This study is particularly enlightening, and has been conveniently ignored for years by the luddite opponents of xenotransplantation. In this case, every batch of Pig Factor VIII was positive for PERV, and yet 88 of 88 recipients who were injected with these retorviral particles on a regular basis showed no evidence of infection. Once again, PERV fails to pass even the first hurdle in becoming a public health risk -- namely, the ability to infect human cells in vivo.
