From 1999, Type 1 diabetes as a "market."
Note the source of the information was from "physician experts and diabetes specialists."
The most telling quote: "Any product that could even slightly simplify the self-management regimens recommended for type 1 diabetics will likely be enthusiastically embraced."
Apparently the experts know more about what we want than we do.
ugh.

A New Study from Decision Resources, Inc., Profiles the Market for Therapies to Treat Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus
WALTHAM, Mass., Feb. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Type 1 diabetes mellitus is a serious chronic disease that has potentially life-altering and life- threatening consequences, including blindness, heart and kidney disease, vascular problems, and neuropathy. In all of the major pharmaceutical markets (the United States, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the United Kingdom, and Japan), the cornerstones of type 1 diabetes mellitus management are intensive insulin therapy, dietary control, and exercise. However, several unmet needs in diabetes therapy continue to frustrate diabetes specialists. Injectable insulin therapy remains far from ideal, and no uniformly effective alternatives to this treatment exist. Any product that could even slightly simplify the self-management regimens recommended for type 1 diabetics will likely be enthusiastically embraced.
In a new report titled Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus, Decision Resources, Inc., provides a detailed examination of this disorder. The study includes a thorough analysis of epidemiology, a review of medical practice, an assessment of current and emerging therapies, and an examination of unmet medical needs in the seven major pharmaceutical markets. The report also includes sales forecasts for specific compounds to treat type 1 diabetes, supported by transparent logic based on in-depth interviews with physician experts and exhaustive secondary research.
This study is part of Immune Disease, a multiclient service that evaluates the commercial potential of drugs in research and development to treat immune- related disorders.
