I am a 39 year old woman diagnosed as Type II Diabetic in 1997. I am taking Glucotrol and Glucophage twice daily and I monitor my blood glucose several times each day. I have never been obese and did not test positive for antibodies. After two years of religiously following my doctors advice and still not being able to control my blood sugars to my satisfaction, I have started looking into other possibilities. I exercise daily and am also a long distance runner. I have started a very low carb diet since the beginning of February 2000 (much lower than recommended to me by my doctor and nutritionist)and I'm beginning to see a decline in my numbers. In tracking my blood sugars over the past two years, however, I can see a trend in my elevated sugars during my PMS weeks. Does anyone have information on the possibility of low levels of Progesterone having an impact on blood sugar? Or other hormones such as cortisol? I am also curious about the C-Peptide test and how mine compares to other TYpe II diabetics. Mine measured an exact 1.0 with a fasting glucose of 143. I am told this is a very LOW normal. What does that mean?? Any information would be appreciated. Donna
