I received this week's New England Journal today. There are two articles on organ transplantation, plus an editorial. One of the articles concerns the use of a blocking antibody for the IL2 receptor (which is found on T cells) for prevention of acute rejection in cardiac transplants (significantly reduced acute rejection episodes and severity). The abstracts are not yet posted on the NEJM website, but should prove interesting reading in the next couple of days for this group. It's encouraging that the arsenal for preventing rejection of transplants continues to grow and be demonstrated efficacious.
