Which condition was dignosed first -- diabetes or lupus? Was it type 1 or type 2 diabetes?
The connections that I have heard about are (1) both diseases are autoimmune, and so a genetic propensity toward autoimmunity could predispose someone to both type 1 diabetes and lupus, and (2) some of the steroid medications used to treat lupus can lead to insulin resistance and possibly diabetes-like symptoms.
I am speculating here, and my comments should be taken with a huge grain of salt.
