A Minimed press release last week discribes it's new implantable MIP 2007 pump and the fact that it had been approved by European authorities and is now available for sale in Europe. I noted that the pump is now smaller, more effective because insulin is administered directly into blood vessel (peronital), and uses a new insulin Aventis. The press release pointed out that the pump needs refiling once every three months and will fit the new (hopefully) glucose monitor. Anyway, all these improvements are not available in the USA because as I found out the FDA has been sitting on approval for 2 years! It's incredible, that European diabetics will be be using this for years but it's not going to available here! I bet if it had a use in treating AIDS it would have been approved long ago! Minimed said they had no idea when or if it would ever be approved here. Just another example of the benign neglect the FDA takes toward Type 1 diabetics.
