JDF has no researchers for your information. They fund researchers and if you look at what they have funded it’s apparent they funded the same research over and over again. They dictate to the researchers the type and direction the research should go. If they wanted to they could have directed the research to sway toward xenotransplantation, islet transplantation, and encapsulation. But they didn’t. The researchers would have researched whatever the market dictated. The monopoly of NIH and JDF dictated PREVENTION and COMPLICATIONS. I’m looking over the 1994 JDF annual report right now. In 1994 they funded 326 research projects. The total they gave out that year was18 million dollars. Can you tell me how the hell 326 projects of which less than 10% were cure related) was going to bring about the “ Decade for the Cure”? The original 6 DIRPS were given to Drs. Brownlee, Drummond, Rabinovitch, Fathman, Polonsky, and Czech. Can anyone tell us what that 30 million dollars JDF had funded did for our children. What drug or new treatment came about?
