Hi Susan,
I tend to be an optimist and one who looks on the bright side of things as much as possible. It's the only way I've found to survive decades of diabetes. However, even for me, 5 years is too optimistic. As Robin has said, researchers are only at the beginning stages with the anti cd154, and say themselves that there is still a long way to go. However, I find this, and any other news that point to us leading a diabetes-free life, very encouraging. I just hope there is also successful encapsulation work going on that will soon be heading to human trials because I have a feeling that if I weigh the pros and cons of trying anti cd 154 versus living for many more years with diabetes, I'll be pushing and shoving in that lineup for the human cells. Unfortunately, many of us will never get to the front of the line. There are just too many of us.
