Don't stop participating in this forum. I go through the same thing with people who are in a fog about the CLINICAL research that is going on in Miami and Minnesota. It is very important you set the record straight so people know what is going on with your work. Don't let these morons spoil it for everyone else. I think they have nothing better to do than to ruin it for everyone else. So please, I beg of you, continue to enlighten the rest of us on what is going on at DRI and other centers. My family need answers, along with the other diabetic parents who are in the dark on what is going on to cure our children.
P.S. Can anyone at the JDF conference let us know what CLINICAL research JDF is funding that shows promise? I hope at the question and answer forum JDF holds every year with Dr. Nadji and other highly funded researchers; the Chapter volunteers ask hard- hitting questions instead of acting like they are at a religious revival meeting. Maybe they will give them more than 20 minutes to ask hard-hitting questions about the direction of funding and what the results have been. My husband has been to past conventions in D.C. and could not believe how the volunteers don't challenge the researchers and JDF staff on their work and the type of cure related funding that is going on. Also, maybe someone can ask why JDF doesn’t have a forum like TIF's on his or her website( Al Gordon should be given some kind of award for developing a forum like this that enlightens us). When my husband asked that question, he was told they are afraid of "perverts" posting messages and the legal ramifications of unscrupulous postings. IS that what they really are afraid of or are they afraid of diabetics getting the truth about how there donations have been pissed away the last 28 years.
I find it also interesting how in the Countdown magazine (funny title: what are they Counting down to?) they have no forum for questions. Why is that Dr. Goldstein?
I’ll take the heat from anyone one in this forum for criticizing JDF. My husband has given a lot of money to the “Remedy for the Cure” campaign. He was promised some type of cure related treatment in the next several years. That was 1994. Six years have gone by and not ONE funded JDF “Remedy” project has been to human trials. That is a disgrace. And to tell us the ship has turned around is a bunch of Bull. We trusted JDF with our hard earning money to cure our son and when we look back on how naïve we were about what JDF was actually funding I have to cry. Nothing was being funded that was cure related. ZERO! Furthermore, to tell us that researchers such as Drs. Ricordi, Doug Melton, Bernard Hering, Alberto Hayek, Hugh Auchincloss, etc., were receiving funds from JDF is nonsense. In fact, their funding was less than 10% of the total allocated research budget. How the hell were they suppose to find a cure with a total of 3-4 million dollars a year between all of them to split up? How can you honestly tell us that this was enough to finance a cure for our child? They told us they had the solutions for a cure, unfortunately it went mostly to prevention and complications. If we only understood what our son needed!
We now have a 3rd grade education on what needs to be done to cure our son. Hopefully we won’t be graduating elementary school.
