I think supportive letters from anywhere will be very helpful. They'll think you're Canadian if you say, "So, I figures we otta' go fer this xeno stuff, eh?"
On a more serious note, it may pique Canadian pride for somebody from the US to suggest that Canada, the home of Banting and Best, could lead the world in curing diabetes. All that is needed is for leadership and support at the federal level. A little flattery will get you everywhere.
So, even if you're not a Canadian resident, your voice will definitely help.
I'll post this bit of news elsewhere on the forum, but Frtiz Bach - the great anti-xeno crusader from Harvard - has managed to arrange a meeting today with our Prime Minister, Jean Chretien -- just as the Houise of Commons is debating its xenotransplantation policy. How unfortunate!
