There's been a lot of talk recently regarding this weight loss scheme (protein power plan), and I am very skepticle of it. Apparently the way it works is that you are put on a high concentration of protein and a low concentration of carbohydrates. The idea is that protein illicits the release of glucagon, while carbohydrates causes the need to release insulin. Therefore, by limiting carbohydrates, the body is starved of sugars causing the release of glucagon to burn off body fat. (Or so I think).
It seems to me that if this was a safe and effective weight loss method, we would also have a cure for diabetes. But as we know, there are dangers involved in releasing stored body fats - i.e. ketones in the urine (hence the danger of ketoacidosis), and also, such a high amount of protein would shoot cholesterol levels throught the roof - albeit they claim lean meats, eggs etc. do not raise cholesterol levels.
It doesn't sound like a brilliant idea to me. Any other comments?
Here is the release from the site "www.proteinpower.com"
___________
More people purchase the Protein Power Plan for weight loss than for any other
single reason.
Women can expect to lose 2-3 pounds per week.
Men can expect to lose 3-5 pounds per week.
While individual results will vary, it’s not uncommon for people to lose more than that,
especially during the first few weeks. It’s also important to stress that the weight loss
that occurs is primarily from bodyfat. This will be especially noticeable in the
stomach, hips, and thighs.
The best part is that the Protein Power Plan lets you eat real foods again! Imagine
sitting down with a nice juicy steak. Or enjoying a hearty omelet with real cheese and
sausage. Or enjoying the taste of real butter again. All of these "forbidden" foods are
not only allowed but encouraged on the Protein Power Plan.
How does the Protein Power Plan help people lose weight?
By making lean protein the cornerstone of your meals, instead of carbohydrate, the
body reduces its output of insulin. Insulin is a hormone that prevents fat cells from
releasing their contents to burn for energy, and causes cells to store additional fat.
Protein, on the other hand, stimulates the release of insulin’s opposite hormone,
glucagon, which signals the cells to release stored bodyfat.
The Protein Power Plan shows you the specific kinds of foods recommended by Drs.
Michael and Mary Dan Eades to help control insulin, while stimulating the release of
glucagon.
How is the Protein Power Plan different from traditional high-carbohydrate
diets?
Here’s a simple equation that answers this question:
CARBOHYDRATES = SUGAR
It doesn’t matter where you get your carbohydrates from—a bagel, a plate of pasta,
an ear of corn, or a candy bar—all carbohydrates break down in the body as simple
sugar. Just like the kind in your sugar bowl does. You may be shocked to see how
much sugar is contained in these common high-carb foods:
1- Medium baked potato = ¼ cup of sugar
1- Cup of pasta = over ¾ cup sugar
2- 7" waffles = ¼ cup of sugar (not including the syrup, which adds another ¼ cup of
sugar)
1- Ear of corn = 1/3 cup sugar
1- Dinner roll = ¾ cup sugar
1- Plain bagel = Over ¼ cup sugar
1- 12 oz. orange juice = ¾ cup sugar
1- Plate of baked beans= ¾ cup sugar
1- Slice of Apple pie = 1 cup of sugar
The average American eats the equivalent of 2 cups of sugar a day!
To process all this sugar, the body releases insulin. Under normal circumstances, the
body releases just enough insulin in response to carbohydrates to keep blood sugar
levels stable. However, many people (we estimate around 75% of the public) become
"insulin-resistant" when they overwhelm the body with several daily insulin ‘spikes’
over time. The body must produce higher levels of insulin to maintain healthy blood
sugar levels. This condition is referred in medical terms as hyperinsulinemia.
Unfortunately, insulin resistance causes fat to be stored to a greater degree. And
that’s why so many people can actually gain weight on a high-carbohydrate
diet—even when they’re following it "by the book."
The Protein Power Plan shows you—step by step—how to get your body out of this
state of insulin resistance so that you can start burning bodyfat again and get back on
the road to your optimum weight. You could get started in less than 1 hour once you
receive the program.
If you haven’t been able to lose the weight you want through a traditional diet, the
Protein Power Plan may be the perfect solution for you. We offer a 30-day money
back guarantee on the price of the product so you can try it and see the results for
yourself without risk
