These is a difference in opinion on this but some research has indicated that the chances of producing a genetically predisposed child is higher if the male is diabetic than the female. Not a statement of fact as such but some research I have read in the past couple of years.
As for difficulties, several variables on this. Your age, control, length of duration of the disease, Type of diabetes and urological health status. Plus all the other issues normally involved in conception, smoking, overall health outside diabetes, drinking.
I still find conception a major miracle.
