Alan,
You mean you didn't believe my lesson in Canadian history? Actually, Boxing day refers to the Canadian custom of returning all the gifts you didn't want in their original BOXES for cash!
Alright, alright, I'll stop being such a cynic. The truth is that I have no clue as to the origins of Boxing Day. From a retailing perspective, it is the biggest sale day of the year.
Our Heather (age 15 and given to cruel practical jokes) says that Boxing Day was for giving boxed presents to errand boys and other yeomen. Sounds reasonable.
I better go study my Canadian History 101.
I'm somewhat out of touch here in the mountains of British Columbia with the family (all 6 of us). It's time to head out of doors again and risk life, limb, and dignity.
Happy New Year!
Al
