Dear Ms. Krefft,
Thank you for voicing your concerns about "Sugar: Treat or Trick?," which
appeared in the October 26, 1998, issue of Scholastic News. In an attempt to
explain a difficult subject in a limited space, we misled our readers. We
failed to specify the differences between Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, and
oversimplified some of our statements. We never meant to imply that children
are in any way responsible for their illnesses, and apologize for any damage
that we have caused.
We will run a retraction statement in the Kids' Mail section of the January
25, 1999, issue. Please accept our sincere apology. We will work diligently
to make sure that we never make this type of mistake again. Please feel free
