Dear Mr. MarkN, there were a number of individuals at the CDA head office that were very cumbersome to deal with in the rudimentary planning stages of my run and who refused to meet me and subsequently thereafter were too lasy or disinterestred in my run and my cause to pick up a pen to boost the profile of the event in any capacity.
It is with great pleasure that I list their names and titles:
(1) Past President Doug Philp
(2) Current President Dennis Taschuk
(3) Executive Director Bill Martin
(4) Communications Director Jean Crawford
As far as I'm concerned those above don't deserve titles and I am currently in the process of explaining this to them.
Due to the lack of support of these so called executives, about 3 months before the departure of my run across Canada to raise dollars for diabetes research I found myself in addition to managing my diabetes and 30km of running daily, also arranging my own sponsors, doing my own media relations, assembling a support team and vehicles, and lastly forming my own foundation and board to collect the funds that they could of had. I did this with no office, no budget, and an encumbent student lone. It bothers me when those with the tools, infastructure, and the reigns of power to do something, do nothing.
No wonder I only raised $100,000. But on the same token its better a hundred thousand toward cure with a true crusade behind it then 165million wasted in another DCCT sociological study.
