Mary,

I don't understand your comparison of percentages for NIH versus ADA.

The fact remains that ADA takes money from donors on the basis of investing in research to find a cure for diabetes. You can see from Diabetes Research and Diabetes Care - Where do we stand? by Mayer B. Davidson, MD, President of ADA, that few of your donated dollars are spent on finding a cure for diabetes. Almost all your donated dollars are supporting behavioral and disease management research and the costs of running a professional organization.

At the DRWG meeting in Washington this past July, Dr. Richard Kahn, Chief Scientific and Medical Officer of ADA presented the ADA research portfolio. You can judge for yourself if donated dollars are going to find a cure for diabetes.

In my opinion, anyone wishing to donate to a mainstream organization in support of finding a cure for diabetes should give their hard earned dollars to JDF, not ADA.

Al
