I have wondered for a while now how insulin works. The only explanation I have ever been able to find is the same oversimplified "lock and key to open a door on a cell" nonsense I got the day I was diagnosed almost 10 years ago.

Does insulin bind to glucose and then to a protein on a cell wall? or does insulin bind to a cell wall first? What is the half life of insulin in the body? what order of rate law would apply?

If anyone out there can answer these questions I would be quite thankful.

Ironic... Just last week I had wished I wouldn't have to even think about chemistry until next semester, and here I go asking things like this.

Brad
