Sandra:

I have long been convinced that the problem of wishful thinking is one of MAJOR problems facing people with diabetes. After all 50 years is not so long if there will never be complications. So the way to turn around organizations like the ADA is to tell the truth. This you have done in a personal and thoughtful way. You are to be commended for it. I agree, as a former President of the local chapter, that the ADA is useful in some ways but destructive in others. The education IS useful. The ability to drain donations from meaningful research is destructive. Like you, I deeply resent the use of the word "cure" by the ADA. I consider it a falsehood. Sometimes when I think back upon my days fundraising and working for the ADA I think that it was just a feel good society. We were participating and donors were giving therefore we were doing good, how childish.

When I was a child,
I thought like a child,
I reasoned like a child.
When I became a man,
I put childish ways behind me.

Now we see but a poor refection as in a mirror;
Then we shall see face to face.
Now I know in part;
Then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known

1 Cor. 13: 11-12

You are doing good work Sandra and I admire you for it. Some day Joey will thank you. I certainly do.
