First of all, I posted about this because I feel a brotherhood/sisterhood with the people who post here. I did not think I was whining or complaining. I felt more like I was simply reporting something I had found. The information I got was from the article I posted and from a conversation I had today with an involved FDA person who insisted it be "off the record." My impression is that the Action Plan is due to the fear of pathogens/viruses that Al eloquently described in "Science or Superstition" some months ago. Like it or not, the concern and fear are very real.
I know exactly what I would do if islet cells were available to me. I'd give blood, go for the counseling, have my family go for counseling, and live. Unless I and my family could be reasonably convinced otherwise, I would still kiss my boys goodnight. Living in fear is not something I usually do (except during a tornado warning). Giving blood is something I do a lot (rheumatoid arthritis and monthly CBC checks and quarterly liver function checks - never mind endo visits). Piece of cake - that I can eat without guilt.
