Melissa,

I have worked in health care very closely with nursing staff for many years. The problem isn't that there aren't enough nurses, but not enough money to hire nurses to go around.Facilities like everything else are a business and look at the profit margin first(Pretty sad)

Like I said before, the reason they aren't as well updated is because they don't have the time. The scene in that ER episode was tragically realisitic of what happens. I've seen it. When you have lack of staff in a profession that deals so closely with sick patients, its real easy to burn out and say or do things you normally wouldn't.It's not uncommon for nursing staff to be working 12 or more hours in a day. I know nurses who are very dedicated and some who aren't. The ones who aren't don't usually last long in the better facilities.

The main complaint most of the rehab patients have is that noone listens...I always explain that its not for lack of caring, but lack of time!!
