i am a 46 male who has had type 1 diabetes for 30 years with no real diabetic related problems -- eyes, kidneys, feet, etc. are fine. over the past ten years or so, i've asked my doctors "if i've done this well for this long can i expect to to live a normal life expectancy with normal eyes, kidneys, feet, etc. or, are all these bad things going to happen all of a sudden or over a short period of time.

i know doctor's want to be careful but this is a genuine question and there should some statistics that say "if you've gone this far with no real problems you are probably out of the woods, or nope diabetic related problems evenually catch up with you and everyone else.

can someone give a a straight answer? or tell me where i can find some literature on this topic.

thanks
