I, too, received a call from J. Mulvihill in response to petitions and a letter I'd sent him "demanding" more equitable funding for islet transplant research. My sense was that our voices are being heard and that scrutiny of scientific review processes is underway. I was most reassured to learn that the Weirs are on amiable terms with the JDF and may (or have) received a grant. Further, the fact that our host, Al Gordon, was invited to attend last week's conference and left there feeling optimistic is most heartening! (Who would be a more unlikely "convert" to the JDF than Al? Ok, EXCEPT you, Boris!).
I'm keeping my fingers crossed and my hopes up that islet cell transplant research will no longer be "badly neglected" (quoting the Weirs). At least we have a "lean" and efficient organization to start with, Renee!
