In light of the much anticipated report from the JDFI/NASA conference, I thought it was well worth posting this "news". The exec. director of the Phila. JDF office gave me a copy of a letter he'd received last week from Dr. Mulvihill. I'm quoting " Enclosed is a copy of an article from the December,1997 issue of SMART MONEY, entitled "Sweet Charity". The magazine consulted leading experts on charitable giving to develop a way to determine the financial efficiency of nonprofit charities. The financial screens identified were then applied to the 100 largest nonprofits in the Nonprofit Times list in order to identify the "10 organizations that do just what they say they'll do: put your money to work as efficiently as possible."
We are very pleased to inform you that JDFI has been selected as one of the 10 most efficient "Charities you can trust." In fact, JDFI is one of only two health/medical charities selected. This is wonderful news, but especially at this time of the year. We hope you will share this good news with as many JDFI colleagues, friends and supporters as you can..."
Considering all the discussions over the course of the past months on this forum about "accountability" from charities, I thought this was well worth sharing!!!..By the way, the others on the list included Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, World Wildlife Fund, Goodwill Industries, Boys & Girls Clubs of America, Smithsonian Institution and a few others. The percentage quoted as being applied to designated programs was the same 83% I'd previously heard. Hope this news, together with Sandra & Al's enthusiastic reports will serve to put that dispute to rest!!!!
