Oh, the pressure! I have been wading through my 30 pages of hand-written notes trying to extract something coherent therefrom. Now I realize that I need to call some of the researchers to fill in details that I failed either to record or to understand. For example, does anybody know what an "islet grnfldt" is? At least that what my scribble looks like. And how do I interpret "genetic trumpet"? Keyboarding has destroyed my handwriting.
But I would again like to say that what I heard at the conference was a source of hope, not discouragement. Furthermore, I believe the people present from JDFI were not there for any reason other than to drive research to finding a cure for diabetes, and to genuinely seek advice as to how JDFI can be most effective in that process.
I believe we are entering a new era that will be very different from the past decade of frustration and lost opportunity.
