You asked this question at a very opportune time. I have just returned from Washington, DC where I attended a 2-day conference sponsored by JDFI and NASA. Present at the conference were many of the top diabetes researchers from around the world who are working on beta cell replacement technologies. The conference provided a superb snapshot of the state-of-the-art in diabetes cure research.

I am now working on a summary of that conference, and I would ask that you bear with me for a couple of days. Also, the panel leaders at the conferences are creating more detailed summaries of each section.

Overall, it was an uplifting experience, and a cause for optimism. The challenge now is leadership and direction (and a little luck).

Al
