Within the last week, I have read about POSITIVE test results for the gluco watch. Now, they have to conduct registration clinical trials. They hope to file a "Notification" sometime in the first quarter of '98, which is less intensive than a new drug application. If the FDA agrees with this route, we could have this in the market by the end of '98, beginning of '99,

This is not what we want. We want Islet Transplantation, however, if the glucowatch does work, perhaps it will convince the JDF not to direct any of its precious resources to non-invasive glucose testing.

Again, this is not a criticism of the JDF. Reading about, and experiencing my son's own insulin reactions, is scary. We must realize that the JDF has a public clamoring for non-invasive blood testing as we are lobbying for islet transplantation.

Speaking about lobbying, I continue to write my public legislators. We are trying to meet with Sen, Olympia Snowe here in Maine, but we have not received a response to our requests. It is important that we lobby with our government as we do online. We must not lose the momentum that has begun this year. This is the longest congressional recess in years. Let's seize the opportunity and describe the personal tragedies of diabetes to the people who can vote an end to this disease.

Happy Holidays to all.
