When I first heard the discussion (many years ago)
of funding research for prevention (vs a cure)...
my gut reaction was "so what does that do for my son
who already has diabetes" - I wanted all the $$$ to go
toward a cure.

However... about 3 years ago, I'd have given my left arm
(**see note below) for some form of prevention - while my
wife and I dealt with the news that our daughter was also
being diagnosed with diabetes.

In the past we have been told that some form of prevention is/may be needed - to prevent our "cured" kids from being
diagnosed with diabetes "again" (after they've been cured).

This may or may not be true... I'm not a rocket scientist,
just a parent who wants the best for my kids... It's been
said before - but it needs repeating... we shouldn't allow
ourselves to be divided into special interest groups fighting
each other for a bigger slice of the research pie... what we
need is a BIGGER PIE... so that researchers can explore any
and ALL avenues that provide a promise of better & healthier
lives for our kids (or ourselves as the case may be).

Sincerely...
Charlie

I had already offered my Right arm for a cure.
