Mark:
I doubt that any oral agent could cause regeneration of dead islets. There are some claims for this agent helping Type 2 Diabetes which is, of course, a totally different disease from Type 1. Here is one blurb on it:
SUGAR DESTROYER
Common Uses:
Diabetes
Hyperactivity in children and adults
Weight Management
Herbal Properties
Gymnema Sylvestre: Used in the treatment of obesity and diabetes inIndian medicine. Gymnema sylvestre, or gurmar,
translates literally to mean "sugar destroyer"and has been used for over 2,000 years. Most studies confirm the blood sugar
lowering orantidiabetic property of gymnema. The word control best describes the action of gymnema onblood sugar and
diabetes. It is not a cure and does not substitute for proper dietary habits ormedicine, but its use will help keep blood sugar
levels within acceptable limits. Most of theresearch into gymnema sylvestre has very important implications in weight control.
With betterglucose utilization there are fewer empty calories to be disposed of by the body.
Other than this, I know nothing about gymnema sylvestre.
