It may be apples and oranges, but isn't the basis of Diamyd's treatment now in clinical trials for early T1 onset based on "GAD65 [...] enzyme that converts the excitatory neurotransmittor glutamate to the inhibitory transmittor GABA." In other words, nueral level mechanisms are implicated. Or not...
Never regretted not having pursued medical research career more than after my child was diagnosed. It is desperately difficult to just wait, isn't it? :-(
