Actually it does prove much.
This is yet further data that again supports our knowledge surrounding the safety of islet xenotransplants.
This information adds to the mountain of evidence supporting the 100% safety record that surrounds PERV and humans.
Regardless of what most opponents of islet xenotransplants would like you to believe, PERV (porcine endogenous retro virus), a virus common to all pigs, is harmless to pigs, and is a vital part of their makeup.
PERV has long known to be incapable of harming or infecting humans.
Our opponents like to claim it is an unacceptable risk, both encapsulated or not encapsulated.
However, they have never been able to demonstrate any REAL risk, whatsoever, despite millions of opportunities for infection.
PERV is not a risk, no matter if cells are encapsulated or not. The safety track record is 100%.
And 30,000 East Timoreans are just further living proof.
